Most of the paper ended up as books or was used in religious ceremonies. Different towns produced different types and colors of paper. Paper was in such great demand that communities sprang up where the fig trees were growing. Then, it was beaten until it was pliable and could be made into sheets. It was stripped from the bark with stone knives, and then boiled in an alkaline solution until the fibers separated. The paper, which came from the wild fig tree, was called amate. However, mostly the Aztec and Maya wrote on paper. The Maya also carved hieroglyphics in stone. The ancient Maya and Aztec were known to write on cloth and deerskin. Petroglyphs can be found all over North America. Final firing temp will depend on whether you are capping with clear glass or not. Glass artists: These are high fire decals for glass fusing and slumping. Decal application and firing instructions can be found at this link. Once fired, the decals become permanently fused with the glaze, similar to decorative dinnerware. Once applied, these decals need to be fired in a kiln to CONE 018 to CONE 016 (1380☏ / 750°). We do not recommend firing a glaze over metallic decals that have been previously fired onto bisque. They can also be applied to an unglazed bisque, if the clay/ porcelain body is very smooth and uniform. They cannot be fired in a home oven.Ĭeramic artists: These low temperature decals are generally applied as a third firing on top of an already fired glaze. Once applied these decals need to be fired in a kiln. These decals can be used with ceramic, porcelain, glass fusing and enamel firing.
